Description: The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a radiologist who is subspecialized in thoracic and cardiac imaging. This individual is expected to make a significant impact in the field of thoracic and cardiac imaging and related areas through innovations and to contribute to a collegial environment that will promote the academic and clinical growth of the Thoracic Imaging section. The candidate is expected to provide clinical services; initiate research projects; actively engage in teaching for residents and fellows; and participate in quality improvement and value initiatives. The academic appointment will be at a rank commensurate with training and experience. Depending on the candidate’s academic experience, a departmental leadership position will also be considered.
Qualifications: The candidate should be American Board of Radiology (or equivalent) certified or eligible, fellowship trained (or equivalent) in thoracic imaging (including cardiac imaging) and have a strong interest in academic radiology. Outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. The candidate should have strong academic interest and prior evidence of research productivity. Active engagement in investigational research and extramurally funded research projects is desired.
Facilities and Institution: The Thoracic Imaging section provides clinical services at the University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute (an NCI-designated premier cancer center), and multiple outpatient centers along the Wasatch Front. Cardiac imaging is a shared service with colleagues in the Department of Cardiology. The Department offers an outstanding residency program in Diagnostic Radiology and a new cardiothoracic imaging fellowship program. Extensive imaging resources, including multiple MRIs, dual-energy CTs, intraoperative MRI, and PET-CT scanners are available for clinical work and research. Pre-clinical imaging resources, such as micro PET-MRI and 7T MRI, are also available. Research opportunities abound, with a broad case mix from the sources described above, as well as the world-class unique support provided by the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR) in the Department. UCAIR offers international expertise in imaging sciences, including basic sciences, physics and engineering, MRI research, and CT and PET research. Unique research opportunities, such as image-based artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are available in collaboration with the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, internationally renowned research institution in the University.
