The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Radiology is offering a one-year fellowship in Cardiopulmonary Imaging and one year in a combined Cardiopulmonary and Abdominal Imaging fellowship.
UAB Hospital is an 1157-bed facility, a Level-1 trauma center, a transplant center, and a major oncology referral center in the State of Alabama. The Department of Radiology has state of the art equipment along with the latest addition of PET-MR. The fellow can expect a good mixture of outpatient and inpatient chest radiography, chest CT, CT-guided thoracic biopsy, chest CTA, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and chest MRI. UAB has strong Pulmonary Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery Divisions and thus provides a good exposure to varied aspects of thoracic imaging, including but not limited to, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer screening, heart and lung transplant, and advanced cardiovascular surgeries. The Divisions of Cardiology and Radiology jointly conduct the clinical activities of Cardiovascular MRI; more than 700 cardiovascular MRI examinations were performed last year.
The fellows may choose to rotate in other sections during their elective time. We also offer a combined cardiopulmonary and body imaging fellowship. There are ample research and teaching opportunities apart from leading our weekly/monthly interdisciplinary conferences. Upon completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be well qualified for either an academic or private practice position.
Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology. Three years of training in an ACGME accredited program is required. The applicants should also be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alabama. Please visit the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners for licensing requirements.
