Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is a tertiary care medical center in Manhattan, New York. The Abdominal and Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship is currently accepting applications for the 2020 – 2021 academic year. The fellowship is an intensive one-year program designed to train radiologists in interpretation of both cardiothoracic and abdominopelvic imaging studies. The medical center is a national leader in several medical and surgical specialties, and is a major organ transplantation center with a specific focus on heart, lung, hepatobiliary and renal transplant imaging.
Fellows spend six months on abdominopelvic rotations and six months on cardiothoracic rotations. The abdominal imaging component consists of both inpatient and outpatient MR, CT and ultrasound studies with emphasis on advanced techniques such as MR elastography, MR prostate imaging, MR defecography, MR rectal cancer staging and post-treatment studies, MR and CT liver donor transplant evaluation, MR evaluations of pregnant patients and the fetus, CT colonography, and ultrasound evaluation of percutaneous AV fistula creation.
The cardiothoracic imaging component consists of inpatient and outpatient chest CT and radiographs and a separate cardiac rotation emphasizing coronary CTA, cardiac MR and whole body TAVR studies.
Four weeks of elective time are given to all fellows; electives are flexible and tailored to match the interest and future job requirements of the fellow. At the end of the fellowship year, our trainees are well-suited for successful careers in both the academic and private practice settings.
Our program includes a dedicated clinical didactic series, a daily body imaging case discussion and an up to date journal club series, in addition to numerous clinical and multidisciplinary conferences in the medical center that our fellows actively participate in.
